ULTRAFAST LASER Coherent Inc. has introduced the Chameleon Ultra, an ultrafast laser that tunes from 690 to 1040 nm, enabling calcium uncaging, autofluorescence techniques, and the use of green, blue and cyan fluorescent proteins, as well as deeper imaging within samples. Scanning speed is 25 nm/s, and peak power is >2 W at 800 nm. The laser’s output has an M2 of <1.1 and a round beam with ellipticity between 0.9 and 1.1. Operation is via a pushbutton menu-driven interface on the power supply’s front panel. The laser can be controlled by a host computer using the supplied GUI, or the user can develop firmware based on the RS-232 command set or LabView VI.
