Can be Customized for Specific Applications
FITCHBURG, Mass., Feb. 24, 2006 -- Headwall Photonics Inc., a maker of hyperspectral sensors and imaging spectrometers for military and defense markets, announces the availability of the Hyperspec line of hyperspectral imaging instruments targeted for medical, pharmaceutical, machine vision and process manufacturing applications.
The Hyperspec line of instruments are completely integrated hyperspectral sensors comprised of an imaging spectrograph, a high performance detector and fore-optics optimized for specific application environments. Given the diverse application requirements encountered within commercial environments, the company says Hyperspec instruments can be customized with options to drive application-specific performance. For additional solution elements such as application integration software and services, Headwall has established strategic relationships to provide expert engineering services at the application layer.

According to Headwall, the company used its engineering experience as a supplier of high-performance integrated spectrometer systems for spectral imaging and chemical sensing solutions to broaden its product offering in the field of hyperspectral imaging sensors to include three new integrated instruments: Hyperspec-VNIR (400-1000 nm, C series for demanding spatial/spectral resolution, D series for fast processing moving webs/scans) Hyperspec-NIR (900-1700 nm, X series for a broad range of near-infrared commercial applications) and Hyperspec-SWIR (1000-2500 nm).

Until now, deployment of hyperspectral sensors for commercial applications as been limited by the lack of integrated hyperspectral instruments and expensive imaging technology that yields an unacceptable return on investment to commercial customers and program managers, according to Headwall.

“As an imaging technology, hyperspectral sensing offers a number of key benefits for customers. Hyperspectral sensors have been readily available for a number of years for military and Department of Defense organizations as well as a few well-funded researchers,” said David Bannon, Headwall’s vice president of sales & marketing. “We are accelerating the introduction of hyperspectral sensors into new markets and application areas by bundling optical and detector technologies to provide customers with packaged solutions. With our optical design and manufacturing capabilities, Headwall has established key relationships with strategic partners that allow us to build and integrate complete hyperspectral systems at very attractive price points.”

Headwall Photonics was formed in 2003 through a management buyout from Agilent Technologies. For more information about the Hyperspec line, visit: www.headwallphotonics.com; e-mail: [email protected]
