TORRANCE, Calif., March 14, 2006 -- Physical Optics Corp. (POC), a provider of advanced technologies for military, government and commercial OEM applications, has introduced the WPIC (pronounced "y-pick"), described as a breakthrough wireless personal information carrier system designed for first responders, battlefield and military medical personnel for use with medical records, optical identification systems and a variety of wireless communication systems.
The WPIC is a wireless data storage unit, about the size of a dog tag, that contains up to 20 years of a patient's medical records, giving medical personnel instantaneous remote access to data.
"Vital records including blood type, allergies, doctor's comments, and even audio and video files, can be transmitted securely and wirelessly up to 10 yards from a wounded soldier," POC said.
The company said its advanced compression technology is a key element in the WPIC's ability to store, read and transmit images, medical files, audio and video data without any perceptual loss of resolution. The device has a wireless interface and a mini-USB port for compatibility with off-the-shelf commercial and government products. It is also compatible with battlefield medical information system-Telemedicine (BMIST) tactical readers, the Composite HealthCare System II-T and POC's FAERITO digital video audio recorders. The technology can be extended to nonmedical and nonmilitary uses in a variety of tasks that use wireless encrypted databases and that require instantaneous access to the information. To assure data security, the WPIC employs Federal Information Processing Standards 140-2 certified encryption.
WPIC features a wireless Bluetooth range of 10 M for read, write and storage functions, 1 to 4 GB of memory, low power consumption and a rechargeable (three-year) battery. It has an ultrahigh effective data communication rate that is achieved by modifying Bluetooth technology (exceeding 1 Mb/s).
WPIC is available now for military, government and commercial OEM customers.
