The USB4000 manufactured by Ocean Optics Inc. is a miniature fiber optic 3648-element CCD array spectrometer with 16-bit A/D resolution and onboard electronics. The modular device is responsive from 200 to 1100 nm and can be configured with several of the company’s optical bench accessories, light sources and sampling optics. The signal-to-noise ratio is 300:1, sensitivity is 130 photons per count at 400 nm, and optical resolution ranges from 0.02 to 8.4 nm FWHM. Features include electrically EPROM storage of calibration coefficients for simple start-up, eight programmable general-purpose input/output signals for controlling peripheral devices, and an electronic shutter for spectrometer integration times of up to 10 µs.
