DiaTherm diamond heat spreaders have been introduced by sp3 Diamond Technologies Inc. Their high thermal diffusivity and conductivity make them suitable mounting structures for laser diodes and diode arrays, LEDs and high-power semiconductor devices. Placed as a submount between the active region of a device and a metal or ceramic heat sink, they achieve optimum heat transfer by conduction, spreading the heat over a larger volume of metal or ceramic to keep the device cool and operational. Available as bare free-standing diamond segments or in metallized form, the heat spreaders are laser-cut from sheets of polycrystalline diamond formed by chemical vapor deposition in DC torch reactors. Density is 3.5/cm3.
