MetroLaser Inc. has released the VibroMet 500V, a single-beam laser Doppler vibrometer for noncontact vibration measurement. Improving on its predecessor, the VibroMet 500, it offers more sensitive measurement over a wider dynamic range and has a visible red laser beam for easier point-and-measure operation. The sensitivity range now starts at 2 µm/s, and vibration velocities to 1 m/s can be measured. The device’s high-coherence solid-state laser diode enables it to receive strong signals at distances of up to 5 m. It measures most surfaces without retrotape or other surface treatments and can be used in harsh and outdoor environments. The collimated laser eliminates the need to adjust a focusing lens.
