The Digi-Las intelligent laser joining head with 3-D coaxial vision, designed for laser-welded blanks and general automotive applications, has been unveiled by Servo-Robot Corp. It allows high-precision joint position measurement for joint tracking with external actuators. The 308 × 120 × 260-mm system is adaptable to any Nd:YAG or ytterbium laser fiber. The controller can perform both tracking and inspection functions, and the articulated robot can weld curved joints and complex 3-D parts. Depth of field is 6 mm, field of view is 8.2 mm, sampling rate per channel is 100,000 pixels per second, and Y- and Z-resolutions are 8.5 and 7 µm, respectively.
