The handheld FPU-Polyimide Prep Unit from 3SAE Technologies Inc. is designed for removing polyimide, metallic and carbon-coated optical fibers without the use of hazardous acid chemicals or metal stripping blades that induce damage. It uses the patented Ion-Enhanced Cold Plasma process, which ionizes the atmosphere that surrounds the plasma field, creating a steady electric arc that is immune to environmental conditions such as altitude, humidity and temperature. The fiber preparation unit’s interface controls the process of stripping, cleaving, and cleaning or mid-span window stripping of polyimide fibers. Guided holders place the fibers in the correct strip length position for fusion splicing and connectorization.
