Cree Inc. has announced the release of its EZBright LED chip platform, which delivers high brightness in an easy-to-die chip. The first product based on the platform is the EZ Bright290 emitter, available in green and blue. It is suitable for white backlighting applications with LCD screens on mobile phones, PDAs, televisions and monitors, and for in-and outdoor LED displays, camera flash, gaming and indicator applications. A proprietary optical design maximizes light-extraction efficiency and produces an optimal lambertian radiation pattern that reduces emission losses. The emitter combines InGaN materials with wafer-level submount technology and is die-attachable with conductive epoxy. The vertically structured device offers typical forward voltage of 3.2 V at 20 mA, is ∼100 µm high and requires only a single wire bond connection.
