FRED 5.100 optical engineering software can be used to visualize and create optical products. Photon Engineering LLC said it reduces prototyping time and costs by creating a virtual three-dimensional prototyping CAD environment to develop new products with better optical performance and fewer manufacturing problems. FRED’s interface uses a four-step process to create or import CAD geometry, create or import source models, apply coatings, materials and scatter properties and then propagate incoherent rays or coherent Gaussian beams. FRED does the rest by reflecting, refracting, scattering, diffracting or absorbing light nonsequentially through the system. It then creates reports to track ray paths, ray history and stray light to find problem areas and visualize where unwanted light goes.
