Terahertz Technologies Inc. has introduced its LTX-5525, an electrical/optical-optical/electrical converter pair that conveys 16 independent channels of digital information over fiber optic links ranging from meters to more than 10 km. Each incoming TTL channel is sampled at 100 megasamples/second, multiplexed and then transmitted serially over an optical fiber at a data rate of 2 Gb/s. The receiver acquires the digital data and demultiplexes it to each of 16 output ports. Each channel may be toggled at rates ranging from 0 to 50 Mb/s. Applications include data acquisition and transmission for plasma physics experiments and power transmission equipment, as well as remote transmission of digital signals in the presence of electromagnetic interference.
