A color controller with an integrated color photosensor for backlighting LCDs for a variety of portable display devices has been announced by Avago Technologies. The ADJD-J823 has a small footprint and a low profile to fit easily into devices where board space is limited. A CMOS mixed-signal integrated circuit with integrated RGB photosensors, it has a wide gain control and uses an algorithm to automatically select optimum gain. It samples the light output from the RGB LED array, processes the color information and adjusts the light output until the target color is achieved. The 5 × 5 × 0.75-mm integrated color management device operates at 2.5 V.
