Meller–13516.jpgOptical-quality sapphire tubes and rods for use as plungers, tips, insulators, flow control devices, spacers and lightguides have been unveiled by Meller Optics Inc. They are offered as-grown or they can be fabricated with all surfaces polished to a uniform and clear finish per MIL-PRF-13830. Featuring Moh-9 hardness, they are durable, chemically inert and suitable for a variety of optical and medical applications. Available in 1 1/8- to 2-in. diameters and lengths up to 500 mm, with a 0.020-in. wall, the tubes incorporate an 80-50 scratch-dig inner diameter and a 60-40 scratch-dig outer diameter finish. They can be provided with one end sealed. Sapphire rods are offered in sizes from 0.080 to 1 in. in diameter and up to 800 mm long.
