A line of off-the-shelf precision-polished optical components has been launched by asphericon GmbH. The standard precision axicons, also known as rotationally symmetric prisms, create long regions of focus along the optical axis to produce a nondiffractive Bessel beam. They also convert a parallel laser beam into a circular image that is used in research and laser applications. Cone angles are from 140° to 179.5°, with 1- and 2-in. diameters. The axicons are made from UV-grade fused silica and are available in standard-, precision- and ultraquality levels. CNC grinding and polishing results in good surface roughness.
