The Aurora Instruments Inc. Fusion 3500 fiber optic fusion splicer combines profile alignment system and local injection/detection technology in a compact unit. In profile alignment mode it detects fiber end defects and makes low-loss splices and estimates splice loss in about 14 s. In injection/detection mode it achieves lower splice losses and more accurate estimates. The device provides two simultaneous X and Y views of the fibers. The monitor is tiltable through 270° for easy viewing.
