Nanosight Ltd. has released the LM10 nanoparticle characterization system. It enables real-time visualization of individual nanoscale particles in suspension, with minimal sample pretreatment, as well as independent quantitative estimation of particle size and size distribution. Consisting of an optical microscope, a CCD camera and the NTA 1.3 analytical software, it can measure nanoparticles down to 9 to 15 nm, dependent on material. The viewing module, in combination with the microscope, uses a laser light source to illuminate the particles, which appear against a dark background as point scatterers, moving under Brownian motion.
