MRC Systems GmbH has introduced a beam position monitor that enables real-time measurement of laser beams via a four-quadrant diode with fast readout electronics. The signals can be viewed directly with an oscilloscope where the X-Y representations yield a clear picture of the beam position. The monitor achieves temporal resolution of up to 100 kHz, enabling inspection and documentation of the positions of single laser pulses. Spatial resolution is in the submicron range, depending on the size and profile of the measured beam. The active sensor area measures 10 × 10 mm, and the X and Y positions can be read into a PC with a standard analog-to-digital converter.
