PathFindIR is a thermal imaging system designed by Flir Systems to help drivers see farther, detect road hazards more quickly, overcome blindness from oncoming headlights, and see through smoke, dust and fog. The company says that the system increases the line of sight more than four times farther than headlight beams, allowing a driver more than 15-s reaction time. It is hermetically sealed, fits behind the vehicle grille, and has a 320 × 240 microbolometer and an internal heater to keep the lens clear in humid conditions. It operates at a 30-Hz frame rate from 7.5 to 13.5 μm with a 36° field of view. Input voltage ranges from 6 to 16 V, and power dissipation is <2 W.
