Micron Optics Inc. has released its sm130 line of compact optical sensor interrogators that quickly and simultaneously interrogate hundreds of fiber optic sensors on up to four fibers at 1 kHz. With the sm041-416 channel expansion unit, the sensor count can be quadrupled, resulting in a single system that can measure both dynamic and static phenomena for large and complex structures. The devices can measure parameters such as strain, acceleration, pressure and temperature from a distance of 50 km or more. Applications include oil wells, offshore oil platforms, oil and gas pipelines, and long-term structural monitoring of buildings, bridges, dams and tunnels.
