NIRTechSystem.gifNIR Technology Systems’ Series 2000 is a near-IR diode array spectrometer that measures pharmaceutical tablet uniformity and coating thickness. Tablets are loaded into a 16- or 28-mm-thick well that is placed inside the sample cell holder. A motor and gear wheel drive the cell, stopping in up to 15 locations along the 105-mm-long viewing window. Near-IR light passes through the cell, transflects through the tablets and is absorbed by the coating, indicating thickness. Measuring time is <2 min. To measure uniformity, tablets are placed individually into a spacer, which is placed in the squeeze cell and loaded into the transport module. The scanner passes light through each tablet and into the optics, where composition is computed and stored in memory, and results are displayed on the screen.
