Miniature Q-switched oscillators are compact, monolithic, short-pulsed solid-state lasers with output wavelengths of 946, 1030, 1047, 1053 or 1064 nm, or the second, third and fourth harmonics thereof, with peak powers up to 50 kW. Available from RPMC Lasers Inc. and manufactured by Arctic Photonics, the devices produce energies up to 40 μJ and can be configured to provide pulse widths from 0.1 to 10 ns with a diffraction-limited beam. Repetition rates from single shot to 300 kHz are available, along with custom units such as with optical parametric generator (1.5 to 4 μm) and Ti:sapphire (~700 to 900 nm) output. They have applications in lidar, bioinstrumentation, supercontinuum generation, seeding high-power fiber amplifiers and portable measurement systems such as μLibs.
