FARMINGTON, Conn., Feb. 5, 2007 -- Trumpf will introduce its VectorMark 5-HP workstation, a high-performance version of the VectorMark 5, to the North American market at the MD&M West medical design and manufacturing conference and exhibition, to be held Feb. 12-15 in Anaheim, Calif.

The 5-HP is capable of marking at speeds nearly two times faster than the standard model while maintaining mark quality, Trumpf said. It is able to VMc5HP.jpgmark a wide variety of materials, and its pulse peak power value make it particularly suited for high-speed engraving, marking of plastics and annealing of metals where pulse to pulse stability is crucial.

Peter Grollmann, Trumpf laser-marking product manager, said, “Manufacturers in the medical, automotive, electronics, electromechanics, defense and aerospace industries will find the machine most applicable. The short-pulse duration makes the system ideal for applications requiring a small heat-affected zone.”

The VectorMark 5 HP is equipped with an automatic laser-power calibration system enabling regular calibration of power settings. This is particularly important in tightly regulated processes such as medical applications, where equipment functionality must be regularly confirmed, Trumpf said.

The system features an Nd-YVO4 (Vanadate) laser, bridging the VMc5 fundamental mode-marking laser and the VMi3 multinode marking laser. Repetition frequency has improved to 120 kHz, and a new digital scanner with increased dynamics contributes to the increase in marking speeds. The smallest possible spot is maintained, even at the highest marking speeds -- just 40 µm for a mark field of 120 x 120 mm (4.7 x 4.7 in.).
