Newport Corp.’s Spectra-Physics Lasers Div. has extended its Excelsior family of low-power CW lasers with the Excelsior-488, an externally doubled diode laser operating at 488 nm, and the Excelsior-561, an intracavity-doubled Nd:YAG laser at 561 nm. Both are suitable for flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, DNA sequencing, Raman spectroscopy and semiconductor inspection. The stand-alone instruments are easy to use and, because of an integrated active light loop, deliver a high degree of output power stability over a wide temperature range. The company says that the lasers provide good optical beam quality and very low optical noise.
