The precisExcite light source from CoolLed Ltd. is suitable for fluorescence time-course experiments. Using three colored, collimated LED sources in a common package, the device delivers separate controllable wavelength peaks of 400, 470 and 525 nm. It provides comparable results to those produced with mercury or xenon sources but does not require warm-up or cool-down time and has a working lifetime that exceeds 10,000 h. Power output for each wavelength is controllable in 1% steps, eliminating the need for neutral density filters and benefiting ratiometric tests, according to the company.
