The Windows-based ImageIron software from NaturalGrafiX provides automatic correction of lens distortion on a variety of digital cameras and lenses, including shift lenses. It recognizes and minimizes radial, radial-asymmetric and tangential distortions of photographs and eliminates vignetting, the light falloff at the images’ edges. Because the procedure works with concrete instead of approximate values, the residue distortion is below one pixel. A calibration procedure automatically and reproducibly determines aberration parameters by photographs of a calibration map. Detailed output of the residue distortion after calibration enables tolerance determination. The software allows batch processing, and it has an optional feature for exporting aberration parameters as a diagram or table.
