Nyfors Teknologi AB has developed a depolarizer manufacturing workstation. Coordinated entirely by PC, the system includes several subunits. The main unit, which includes three power meters, optics and a three-axis translation stage, performs 45°, 0° and 90° splices. One power meter each measures the ordinary ray, the extraordinary ray and the cutback. The power meters control a rotator mounted on the splicer. The stage, which is controlled by a built-in microprocessor, automatically centers the fiber in front of the input aperture and controls the focus distance. Once it has found the desired splice angle, the system completes and recoats the splice.
