B&W Tek Inc. has announced the next generation of its portable Raman system. MiniRam II is a lightweight battery-operated spectrometer with 10 cm–1 spectral resolution from 175 to 3100 cm–1. It includes a fiber-coupled sampling probe and a stabilized 785-nm, >300-mW excitation laser with a lifetime of >10,000 h. With the probe or the plug-in cuvette sampling accessory, users can analyze powders or liquids in bottles or tubes or directly from ponds and streams. The system measures a variety of organic molecules with a low-noise, high-resolution thermoelectrically cooled 2048-pixel CCD.
