M2Optics_13819.gifA fiber optic field simulation test instrument has been unveiled by M2 Optics Inc. The Fiber Lab 3200 houses four spools of fiber for users to connect in series with short patch cords via industry-standard connectors on the front panel. It holds up to 100 km of fiber and performs network data accuracy testing by simulating field conditions over hundreds of kilometers. It is available with spools of fiber that provide 1, 2, 4 or 8 dB of real fiber attenuation in each of four attenuation areas and can be filled with standard SMF-28e fiber or with other single- or multimode types, with attenuations at 1310 or 1550 nm. It is suitable for benchtop- or 19-in.-rack mounting.
