The TechSpec family of light pipe homogenizing rods from Edmund Optics Inc. is designed for OEM illumination. The rods use total internal reflection to turn nonuniform light into uniform illumination and to deliver it to the target site. The rods have a hexagonal cross section that provides a better match to the spherical point source wavefronts. This shape results in a 35% increase in efficiency. The rods are available in 2-, 5- and 10-mm apertures and have lengths approximately 12 times the aperture size.
