NuSil Technology has unveiled a line of Ultra Low Outgassing controlled volatility materials for use by the aerospace industry. The silicone adhesives and coatings retain elasticity and low modulus over a temperature range from –130 to 260 °C. NASA and the European Space Agency recommend testing low-outgassing materials to meet the ASTM E-595 standard, and the materials should meet the specifications outlined in NASA SPR-0022A and ESA PSS-014-702, which require a maximum allowable total mass loss of 1% and collected volatile condensable material of 0.1%. The company says that its materials surpass these requirements, with specifications of 0.1% and 0.01%, respectively.
