STAMFORD, Conn., Oct. 3, 2007 -- Omega Engineering Inc. said its new OS100E series miniature infrared transmitters measure temperatures in hard-to-reach places and harsh environments, while its CY670 series silicon diodes sensors offer accurate temperature readings in five tolerance bands, including three for cryogenics.

OmegaOS100.jpgThe OS100E mini infrared (IR) transmitters measure a temperature range of -18 to 538 °C (0 to 1000 °F). All models feature a remotely mounted IR sensor head connected to a high-performance, microprocessor-based signal conditioner. According to Omega, the miniature sensor head is ideal for measuring temperature in confined spaces and under harsh conditions.

The sensor head is connected to the main electronics housing via a 1.8-m (6-ft) shielded cable. The signal conditioner's main electronics is mounted in a rugged NEMA 4 (IP65) rated die-cast aluminum housing. Model OS102E includes a built-in LED display that is switchable between Celsius and Farenheit. Standard features include adjustable emissivity, field-adjustable alarm output, and RS-232 PC interface. Available analog outputs include 4 to 20 mA, 0/5 Vdc, 0/10 Vdc, 1 mV/Deg, and Type K thermocouple. All models are CE marked; prices start at $195.

CY670 series silicon diodes offer a more accurate reading of temperature ranges compared to previously marketed silicon diodes, the company said. Conforming to the CY670 standard voltage vs. temperature response curve, sensors within the CY670 series are interchangeable, and for many applications they do not require individual calibration. CY670 series sensors in the SD package are available in five tolerance bands, including three for general cryogenic use across the 1.4 to 500 K temperature range, and one that offers superior accuracy for applications from 30 K to room temperature.

Omegacy670.jpgThe sensors also come in a tolerance band (E), which is available only as a bare die. For applications requiring greater accuracy, CY670-SD diodes are available with calibration across the full 1.4 to 500 K temperature range.

The CY670E bare-die sensor provides the smallest physical size and fastest thermal response time of any silicon diode available, Omega said. This is an important advantage for applications where size and thermal response time are critical, including focal plane arrays and high-temperature superconducting filters for cellular communication.

Applications for the sensors include heat treating, aerospace, and IC manufacturing; prices start at $205.
