For Inspection Applications
Dalsa Corp. announced this week the latest addition to its GigE Vision-compliant digital cameras designed for industrial imaging applications -- four new color models of the Genie camera.

These area scan cameras feature a Sony CCD color sensor with resolutions ranging from VGA to 1400 and operate at up to 64 frames per second (fps) in full resolution. The Genie color cameras feature white balancing and advanced Bayer conversion to produce crisp and clear color images, the company said. This GigE Vision camera acts as a single machine-vision component, as it integrates both advanced camera and board image acquisition technologies in one small package.

Industries such as food processing, automotive inspection, print inspection, pharmaceutical inspection, part presence and/or detection, PCB assembly, intelligent traffic surveillance (ITS), and many quality and grading applications can benefit from color machine-vision inspection, Dalsa said.

“With the addition of color to the Genie cameras, new opportunities now emerge for inspection applications requiring more clarity and distinction,” said Dalsa Vice President of Sales and Marketing Philip Colet. “As Dalsa’s innovation with the Genie cameras continues, we see many OEMs, comprised of both new and existing clients, updating their systems to now include color.”

All of Dalsa’s Genie cameras are certified GigE Vision compliant by the AIA (Automated Imaging Association). The Genie color cameras take full advantage of Gigabit Ethernet technology, transmitting data over standard CAT-5e and CAT-6 cables to distances of up to 100 m allowing for a greater distance between the camera and inspection system.

The Genie GigE color camera is supported by Dalsa’s Sapera Essential software and its Genie Framework package for fast and simple camera setup -- from initial set-up to grabbing images in minutes. Genie Framework also employs Dalsa’s advanced trigger-to-image reliability engineering significantly accelerating application development and deployment time by providing developers with a 360º view of the entire acquisition process, according to the company.

The Genie color cameras are available immediately and offered in four models: C1400 (one-half inch sensor size), C1024 (one-third inch sensor size) and the C640 available in both these sensor sizes. All models feature global electronic shutter with exposure control, onboard flat-field correction and onboard color conversion. The color cameras start at an OEM quantity price of $755.

Other models in the Genie series include the monochrome counterparts of the color cameras, models M640, M1024 and M1400 and the HM series cameras, monochrome cameras which operate at up to 295 FPS, in VGA resolution.
