Rigaku.jpgThe Saturn 944+ and 724+, CCD-based area x-ray detectors for macromolecular and small-molecule x-ray crystallography, have been unveiled by Rigaku Americas Corp. The detectors offer a fourfold increase in readout speed (up to 8 MHz total) and improved signal-to-noise and dynamic range over previous models. The full-frame CCD sensor uses proprietary two-phase architecture with large pixels for wide dynamic range. The 944+ has a 94 × 94-mm image area (133 mm diagonal), and the 724+ has a 72 × 72-mm image area (102 mm diagonal).
