UV Laser Micromachining Workstation
MANCHESTER, N.H., Nov. 15, 2007 -- JP Sercel Associates (JPSA), a Manchester, N.H., supplier of laser workstations for micromachining, announced it has sold an IX-260 ChromAblate excimer laser-based micromachining workstation to Los Alamos National Laboratory. 

The system is configured with an ultraviolet (UV) excimer laser, a 193-nm beam delivery system for vacuum UV applications such as glass processing, and a single-axis motorized mask positioner that allows the user to select a number of mask images under computer control. It includes JPSA’s software interface, which integrates all stages of motion and the laser fire mechanism and laser maintenance functions in a single platform.

Complex shapes and patterns can be machined for a wide variety of materials -- including PTFE, glass, sapphire and tungsten -- due to the characteristics of the IX-260's powerful excimer laser beam, beam delivery system (BDS) and range of working UV wavelengths (down to 157 nm).

Beam homogenization and near-field imaging allow multiple simultaneous micromachining processes for optimum yields. A high pulse repetition rate ensures rapid processing, and precision motion and positioning components ensure repeatability and quality, JPSA said.
