JENA, Germany, Feb. 1, 2008 -- Jenoptik Laserdiode GmbH exhibited quasi-continous-wave (QCW) 808-nm-wavelength diode lasers at Photonics West 2008, held last month in San Jose, Calif. The lasers use passive cooling based on diode laser bars from its Jenoptik Diode Lab subsidiary.

For pulse durations up to 300 µs and duty cycles up to 10 percent, their peak power can be as high as 300 W. Fast-axis collimation is also available.

Jenoptik Laserdiode also presented passively cooled QCW stacks that achieve peak powers up to 2.4 kW. The company said it is also preparing fast-axis collimation for the stacks.

Jenoptik Laserdiode makes high-power diode lasers that can be used as pumping sources for solid-state and fiber lasers or as direct-beam sources for medical technology and material processing. Jenoptik Diode Lab produces optoelectronic components that Jenoptik Laserdiode uses to make its diode lasers. The company is located in Berlin-Adlershof along with its technology partner, the Ferdinand Braun Institute for High Frequency Technology (FBH), which it spun off from in 2002.
