Orbits Lightwave Inc. has introduced a slow light laser based on its Ethernal laser platform. The company says that the technology reduces the low-frequency relative intensity noise by nearly six orders of magnitude and increases the lifetime of the laser cavity by a factor of 30. The device is available at 1.5 and 1.06 μm with power of up to 250 mW and has applications in acoustic sensing, in lidar, in microwave photonics and in advanced coherent free-space communications. It also can maintain its noise performance under adverse environmental conditions.
