Fairchild Semiconductor has introduced the FAN5645, a single-wire programmable LED driver for use in blinking LED indicators. It records and indefinitely plays a blinking pattern, eliminating the need for continual system processor control, freeing up bandwidth and resulting in energy savings and longer battery life. It consumes only 33 μA of current, typically. It uses lead-free terminals and is characterized for moisture sensitivity in accordance with the lead-free reflow requirements of the IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020. It also is RoHS-compliant. Housed in a 3 × 3-mm package, it is suitable for space-constrained portable and battery-operated applications such as cell phones, toys, home appliances, mobile computing, Bluetooth peripherals, rechargeable flashlights, motion sensors and power tools.
