SensL.jpgSensL has launched the SPMPlus, a large-area version of the company’s silicon photomultiplier detectors. A viable solid-state alternative to the large-area analog photomultiplier tube, the device features a 1.3 × 1.3-cm total active area and incorporates a transparent glass substrate and connector design that allows the array of individual silicon photomultiplier pixel signals to be summed as a single output. The detector features include a <1-mm source-detector surface working distance, 30-V low bias voltage operation, magnetic insensitivity and high tolerance of ambient light. The company’s biasing circuitry ensures onset times <10 ns and recovery time of <60 ns. The device achieves 106 gain as well as gain stability comparable to that of traditional photomultiplier tubes. Applications include nuclear medicine, environmental monitoring, fluorescence spectrometry, fluorescence imaging and microarray imaging.
