The AquilionOne volume computed tomography system from Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc. reduces diagnosis time for life-threatening events such as stroke and conditions such as heart disease. The system is designed to scan a selected organ — including the heart and brain — in one rotation, covering up to 16 cm of anatomy using 320 ultrahigh-resolution 0.5-mm detector elements, and will allow physicians to see a three-dimensional depiction of the organ, as well as its blood flow and function. It reduces the need for multiple duplicative tests, invasive procedures, radiation and contrast dose, and examination time, while increasing diagnostic confidence.
