Anritsu Co. has unveiled an optical amplifier test system that has an optical spectrum analyzer, optical modulator and a PC-compatible controller to make noise-frequency and gain measurements of optical amplifiers that are used in WDM systems. The ME7890A covers the 1530- to 1570-nm range and can measure channel space of 50 GHz, allowing it to gauge the small difference between wavelengths of multiple signals. The system uses a pulse method to directly measure amplified spontaneous emission at the signal wavelength.
