OptiMedica Corp. has announced the Pascal system, which is used with National Instruments’ LabView FPGA and PCI-7833R data-acquisition device to improve panretinal laser photocoagulation treatment. The photocoagulator is a fully integrated pattern-scanning laser system that provides significantly improved performance for physicians administering treatments by allowing them to use a mechanical joystick and foot pedal to deliver 100-ms laser pulses to abnormal blood vessels of the peripheral retina. According to the company, the system provides a precise way to evenly distribute patterned spots and to reduce treatment duration, patient discomfort and the number of sessions.
