Oxxius.jpgThe Violet lasers presented by Oxxius SA offer a collimated near-UV optical beam in a compact radial package. Their power stability and low-noise characteristics make them suitable for a wide range of applications, namely in fluorescence and sensing. Their compactness allows for easy integration into a variety of environments.

GaN laser diodes were a major innovation of the late 1990s. They have significantly extended the wavelength range accessible to semiconductor laser diodes toward the lower end of the visible spectrum and are poised for volume production with the advent of next-generation optical storage technologies. Today, GaN diodes are achieving power levels of tens of milliwatts. They also are attractive as replacements for older laser technologies in the 375- to 445-nm-wavelength range.

The new systems are available at 375, 405 and 445 nm, with CW power of 15, 50 and 45, respectively. The company expects that systems integrators will choose the OEM version, whereas academic users will select the plug-and-play version, fitted with a power supply and with the security devices required by laser safety standards. Advanced electronics ensure precise temperature and power control, maximizing diode lifetime. The output power can be adjusted manually or modulated up to 100 kHz through analog and TTL controls.

The plug-and-play version measures 156 × 34 mm and is CE- and CDRH-compliant. The OEM version measures 150 × 30 mm and requires a 5-V power supply. Holding brackets to attach the module to an optical bench can be ordered as an option.
