Coherent Inc.'s Semiconductor Group has announced a tripled wavelength range for its high-power laser diode bars. The 40-W bars come in wavelengths from 780 through 840 nm. Placed on a passively cooled mount, the bars are based on the company's proprietary aluminum-free active area technology, which has enabled it to manufacture high-power devices at wavelengths difficult to attain from conventional technology. The diodes are suitable for noncontact manufacturing applications and as pump diodes.
