Kappa opto-electronics GmbH has brought out a series of Gigabit Ethernet cameras for a wide range of applications. Various sensors address the needs of product inspection, metrology and surveillance, and the GigE interface facilitates cables up to 100 m long.

The PS 40 models have a CCD sensor with megapixel resolution and an RGB Bayer filter. Field-programmable gate array electronics provide real-time colour signal processing.

The rugged block housing measures 65 × 65 × 56 mm, and the camera weighs 320 g and takes C-mount lenses. The cameras are designed for integration using the sdk3 software development kit with its .net-class or C-function library. The PS 4 series models also are compatible with sdk3 but have monochrome CCD sensors.

The monochrome DX 4 and colour DX 40 GigE cameras are supplied with cable and KCC camera control software ready for the end user. They provide 12-bit digital signal processing and operate at up to 30 fps. Their progressive-scan sensors and external trigger enable capture of fast-moving targets, and binning and partial scan modes produce fast frame rates. The cameras also feature long time integration, variable gamma correction, high detail sharpness, and edge and contrast enhancement. An optional software package called Kappa ImageBase aids gauging and measurement, process automation and scientific diagnostic applications. The cameras consume low power, drawing 3.6 W from a 9- to 36-VDC supply. They offer a highly linear response and a good signal-to-noise ratio. Sensitivity is 0.000029 l× at 20-min exposure time for the DX 40C-285 GigE cooled camera.
