Lovalite_fdtd7big2.jpgLumerical Solutions Inc.’s FDTD Solutions 6.0, a broadband finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulator, offers highly accurate material modelling that enables optical designers to predict device performance across a wide wavelength range.

Through its multicoefficient materials and autofitting capabilities, the software can emulate highly dispersive materials employed in CMOS image sensors, solar cells, plasmonic biosensors, optical display components and other applications of industrial interest.

To achieve broadband performance, the material database has been expanded and redesigned to include the dispersive properties of many new optical materials. The refractive index and absorption properties of dispersive materials now can be automatically fitted to experimental data imported by the user. Accurate results are obtained over wide ranges in frequency from a single simulation.

The company says that the simulator is the only one of its kind to allow the user to accurately investigate various spectral illumination conditions without having to run a separate simulation for each wavelength, and run-time spectral averaging saves memory.

The package is designed to use multicore/processor machines and/or clusters through its built-in parallel computing capabilities.
