BRIDGEWATER, N. J., Aug. 6, 2008 – Hamamatsu Corp. said its ORCA-R2 cooled CCD camera offers high sensitivity from visible to near-infrared light, high dynamic range, fast readout speed and low noise.

The camera contains an ER-150 progressive scan interline CCD enclosed in a hermetic vacuum-sealed head. Capable of simultaneous exposure and readout, the CCD has 1344 x 1024 pixels. The camera delivers full-resolution images in two readout speeds, normal and rapid, delivering frame rates of 8.5 frames per second (fps) and 16.2 fps, respectively. It can attain 115.1 fps when using the rapid readout mode with 8 x 8 binning and 8 sub-arrays.

Hamamatsu-ORCA-R2.jpgIt is equipped with both 12- and 16-bit A/D converters, and data output is via Firewire IEEE 1394b. An extended range of programmable trigger signal output options is also available.

The camera also features low noise due to optimized circuit design and its cooling system. It operates at low temperatures of -35 °C using the air-cooling method, or -40 °C using the water-cooling method.

It can be used for a range of applications, including microscopy, red to NIR fluorescence, time lapse fluorescence and ratio imaging, failure analysis and semiconductor inspection.
