Starna Cells Inc. has introduced the Type 19FL ultramicro volume fluorescence lens cell for UV and visible spectrofluorometric analysis of 5-μl samples or less. Although the device is 5% less sensitive than a conventional 10-mm path length cell, dilution is generally unnecessary, which, according to the company, compensates for this quality while minimizing reagent costs. It uses far-UV nonfluorescence quartz and can be supplied with a Z height of 8.5, 15 or 20 mm, to make loading and flushing simple with minimal dead volume. The lens cell is suitable for molecular biology, proteomics and forensics applications.
