A portable high-resolution optical time-domain reflectometer has been released by Luciol Instruments SA. The LOR-200, based on proprietary scanning photon counting technology, distinguishes events with 20-cm separation and has a submeter attenuation dead zone. Its 15-dB dynamic range for 2-ns pulses enables it to see through optical splitters, even over short distances. Additional optical pulse widths are 5, 10, 30, 100 and 300 ns, and 1 ms. Wavelength options are 1310, 1490, 1550 and 1625 nm, and reflectance accuracy is ±1 dB. Applications include installing and maintaining passive optical networks, fiber optic sensors and fiber to the home.
