Labsphere.jpgThe UV-2000S UV transmittance analyzer from Labsphere Inc. provides greater dynamic range and functionality over the predecessor model. Designed to measure the spectral transmittance of sunscreen products, especially those with a sun protective factor (SPF) of 50 and higher, the benchtop instrument measures the diffuse transmittance of a product sample over the 280- to 410-nm- wavelength range. A dual-beam spectrometer with diffuse illumination accurately measures highly scattering samples. No filters are needed. The application software converts measurement data to provide the SPF, UVA to UVB ratio, critical wavelength, Boot Star rating and UVA-protection factors. The device reduces the need for in vivo testing protocols.
