Fourier transform mass spectroscopy platform
BILLERICA, Mass., May 22, 2009 – Bruker Daltonics Inc. has introduced the solariX, its next-generation hybrid Fourier transform mass spectroscopy (FTMS) platform. The company says that the system has eight times better broadband mass resolving power, 10 times better sensitivity and an improved dynamic range, compared with earlier platforms. It is suitable for use in top-down proteomics and complex mixture applications, including hydrocarbon-related analysis, environmental soil/sediment analysis, small-molecule biological tissue matrix-assisted laser desorption /ionization (MALDI) imaging and metabolomics.
For applications that require liquid-chromatography (LC) FTMS, the solariX offers faster and smart data-dependent acquisition capabilities. Moreover, sub-parts-per-million mass accuracy is maintained throughout the analysis via the proprietary Ion Charge Control method.
The system performs fully automated electron transfer dissociation (ETD) for in-depth, comprehensive analysis of proteins and peptides and their labile, post-translational modifications. ETD analysis can be combined with LC-MS /FTMS workflows and with quadrupole fragmentation to provide protein structural information. The solariX can also be incorporated into the workflows of other mainstream proteomics platforms for high-throughput biomarker discovery and quantitation.
The new dual ion funnel source combined with an ion transfer system makes the platform intuitive and easy to use. The instrument operates on proprietary unified Compass software.
Low-maintenance refrigerated magnets are standard at several magnetic field options, including 7, 9.4, 12 and 15 tesla.
